Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy

Samarra Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences

In light of the rapid advancements in generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted tools—and in pursuit of scientific integrity and transparency—the Samarra Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences adopts the following policy:

  1. For Authors (Researchers)

Permissible Use

Generative AI tools may only be utilized to enhance the clarity, grammar, and style of a manuscript. These tools must not be employed to generate original scientific findings or to interpret data without careful human oversight.

Accountability and Oversight

Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy, originality, and integrity of any content produced with AI assistance. All AI-generated content must be thoroughly reviewed by the author to ensure the absence of errors, misinformation, or bias.

Mandatory Disclosure

Authors are required to disclose the use of generative AI tools within the manuscript in a dedicated section (before the references), stating clearly the tool used and its specific role in the writing process.

Authorship and Intellectual Contribution

Generative AI tools must not be credited as authors or co-authors. Authorship entails responsibilities—such as approving the final manuscript and responding to questions about the work—that can only be fulfilled by human contributors.

  1. Use of AI in Visual Content (Figures and Illustrations)

The use of AI-generated or AI-altered figures, images, or illustrations is strictly prohibited unless such use is an integral and reproducible part of the research methodology (e.g., in biomedical imaging). In such cases, full disclosure must be provided in the "Methods" section, including the tool’s name, version, and purpose.

  1. For Peer Reviewers

A Manuscripts under review are confidential documents. Uploading them—or any part of the peer review report—into generative AI tools is strictly forbidden, as it may breach confidentiality, intellectual property rights, or data protection regulations.

B Reviewers must not rely on generative AI to assist in scientific evaluation. Peer review requires human critical thinking, subject-matter expertise, and ethical judgment, which AI tools cannot provide.

  1. For Editors

Editors are prohibited from using generative AI tools to evaluate, summarize, or make editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts. All editorial communications and manuscript content must be handled with strict confidentiality and may not be processed by AI systems.

  1. Approved Internal Use of AI Tools

The Samarra Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences may employ internally managed or licensed AI systems—compliant with ethical AI use principles—for purposes such as language editing, plagiarism screening, and reviewer matching, provided that these tools uphold data privacy and author confidentiality.
